"Wicked" Candy Apples

The leaves are changing color, the air is getting colder, and the days are growing shorter. It is fall! Which means the time of apples has come, and I have a treat to satisfy that carve for those who need it with these “wickedly” good candy apples to share with friends and family.

Ingredients
  • 12 Apples
(Any kind is fine I will be using  Fuji)
  • 12 wooden sticks
(I used chopped sticks really anything is fine even sticks)
  • 1 ½ cup sugar
  • ½ cup light corn syrup
  • 1 tsp. of any color gel paste to color your candy
Equipment
  • Medium Sauce pan
  • Whisk
  • Candy thermometer
  • Baking sheet (greased)
  • Tin foil/wax paper (optional)

Now before we start making an thing we have to prepare the apples. The first step you will want to take is to wash your apples and dry them off until they are bone dry.

Next you will want to grease your pan whether it be with spray or shortening. You can also just use tin foil or wax paper. The next step is to place your candy thermometer into your saucepan and make sure it is secure.

Once your apples are dried one are going to want to grab your sticks and start stabbing your apples and want to stab them about ¾ of the way and in the middle of the apple.

Now it is time to make the candy. Add your sugar, corn syrup, and water into the pan on medium heat.

Stir the mixture until all the sugar is completely dissolved. Once the sugar is dissolved, boil until it reaches 320 degrees F or the hard crack mark on your thermometer.

Once it reaches 320 degrees take your pan off the heat and  add your food coloring. Then swirl your pan until the food coloring is completely mixed in. Twirl your apples in the candy until it is mostly coated (you may have to tilt your pan to do this). Next, just wipe of the excess and place on your baking sheet and repeat for remaining apples. You now have some “wicked” candy apples to eat and share.
