Caramel Apples - TO GO!!!

It appears that fall has completely consumed our everyday lives. If you ever get tired of overwhelming popularity of pumpkin spice, you can always count on the classics- apples! Wonderful in both taste and smell, it seems to be a dependable friend that never grows old. Although it appears that apples can be made into virtually any fall themed gift, a time- honored traditional favorite of mine would easily be the caramel apple. And what an easier and more simplistic gift to give your loved ones this autumn season than a caramel apple set- wrapped together neatly in a jar.

Starting from the bottom, we first must assemble the base of the gift- the jars themselves. In saying so, let it be noted that there are multiple ways to make them. First, you can begin by taking the jar and placing your M&M’s on the bottom, filling just below the halfway mark. Next, add in your twelve wrapped caramels so that the jar is completely saturated; adding in extra M&M’s if desired to fill the gaps.
What I did was take two jars, filling one with the M&Ms and a separate one with premade caramel dip- plain and simple! Finally, you can add your lid on top of the jar and, just as easy as that, your jar is already finished!

With your completed jar in hand, we move onto the decoration process. Begin by stacking your jars and then gently placing your apple on top of them. Take your new caramel apple jar structure and set inside of your bag. You can now choose to twist and fasten the structure together with your choice of fall colored ribbon or twine. Finally, add in a creative label to the top to finalize your gift, mine followed the theme of apples and fall. Believe it or not, your gift is now perfectly finalized and ready to be given to its special recipient!

In case you can’t resist the endearing temptation that these caramel apples draw in, you can always make one for yourself too! In order to make the caramel, remove the M&M’s from the jar and place them onto the lid; set aside. Unwrap your 12 caramels and add 1 teaspoon of water into the jar. Although there are many formulas to making caramel sauce, one simplistic method for beginners is through the microwave. You can accomplish this task by microwaving your product once for a minute before stirring. Then repeat the process for 15 second intervals, still stirring between each, until smooth- but be sure to monitor it carefully.

Finally, we arrive at the center of attention- the apple. Take your washed and dried apple and pierce it with a lollipop stick- followed by placing it into the caramel jar. To cover the entire apple, you can use a knife to spread the additional caramel over the entirety of its surface.

Proceed by rolling the dipped caramel apple into the M&M’s to add extra flavor! FIll any empty spaces by adding the candies by hand by pressing them into the caramel. Set on a piece of parchment paper to dry.

And just as easy as that, you have either a delectable snack to sooth your stomach or a wondrous gift to share with a friend- all in less than ten minutes.
With your finalized caramel apple in hand, let us cheers together to the beautiful arrival of the autumn season!
