This week I decided to put a spin on a classic apple pie, because nothing reminds me of fall more than apple pie. Its festive and fun and not to mention easy! These fries are a great way to have the flavor of an apple pie, without all of the work that goes into eating a piece of pie. Here are some quick tips and a easy recipe for Apple Pie Fries.
What you will need:
- 1 pkg of pie crust ( with 2 pie crusts)
- 1 large egg
Filling:
- 5-6 apples chopped
- 2 tbs lemon juice
- 1/4 c brown sugar
- 1/4 c water
- 3 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- 1/3 c sugar
- cornstarch
Cinnamon and sugar to sprinkle
Steps:
- Peal and core you apples then chop into very small chunks (roughly 1/4 inch cubes) and add to a medium sized frying pan.
- Measure out lemon juice, brown sugar, water, cinnamon, nutmeg, and sugar, and add all to the medium sauce pan with apples. Cook this mixture over medium heat until the apples are soft, and the sugar is dissolved.
- Once your apples are soft you can sift in your cornstarch to thicken up your filling, (Tip: Add about a Tbsp at first and mix, and if you think it needs to be thicker add a teaspoon from then on at a time).
- After apples are soft remove from heat and cool slightly before blending, then cool completely in the fridge.
- Next we move onto the pie crust. Roll out both pie crusts till desired thickness. (I personally like thin pie crust so I roll mine out to about a 1/8 of an inch)
- Then spread the apple filling on one of the crusts, and place the other crust on top of the crust with filling on it.
(Tip:The original recipe that i found said to cut the crust with filling into fry shapes then coat with an egg and sprinkle cinnamon and sugar over, but i found it easier to coat with an egg and sprinkle with sugar then cut.)
Now you know how to make these simple but delicious desserts. I hope you guys have fun trying this recipe and putting your own spin on it.
