Fall-themed Pom Pom Garland

When you think of pom poms, your mind might envision a cat pawing at one on a string. While it is true that they can be used as cat toys, people tend to enjoy them as well. There are many options for cool ways to use pom poms. You can use them as a key chain, corner decorations on pillows, or even pom pom garland as I will be showing you today. This can be an idea that you could use for every season, you just have to make different colored pom poms to fit the occasion. Lets begin!

You will need:
Yarn (fall-colored)
Scissors
Cardboard
Circles to trace on cardboard

Step No. 1:
Use random objects (such as the bottom of a small bucket) and a milk cap to trace two circles on your cardboard. The smaller circle goes inside the larger one. Then you will need to cut out your circles. The inner smaller circle should be cut out as well. You will need two of these cardboard rings per pom pom. Then, grab your yarn and tie a knot around the two pieces as shown in the picture.

Step No. 2:
Cut off a large amount of yarn and begin wrapping it around the circles. Make sure that you cover all of the cardboard leaving no open spaces so that your yarn is evenly distributed in your pom pom. I varied taking pictures of my yellow and orange pom poms but the process is the same.

Step No. 3:
Continue wrapping the yarn around and around the circle until the hole in the center is too small to fit any yarn through anymore. If you run out of yarn, it´s no big deal. All you have to do is tie some more around your remaining end and keep on going. Once the hole is too small, the next step is to separate the yarn until you can see the cardboard again. Stick your scissors in between the two cardboard pieces and begin to cut.

Step No. 4:
This next step is crucial to hold the whole pom pom together. Take a strong yarn or string and place it in between the two cardboard pieces and tie a tight knot. I used blue yarn because it was tougher than the yellow and orange yarn. Any color will work.

Step No. 5:
This next part is pretty easy, all you have to do is tear away the cardboard and shake out your pom pom to make it nice and fluffy. Feel free to give it a little trim to fix any stragglers. Once you shake it out, you will be left with a finished pom pom. Make as many as you´d like to go on your garland. I made five but it really depends on how spaced apart you want them to be.

Step No. 6:
Tie your pom poms on a string nice and tight and there you have it, a pom pom garland that you can hang anywhere for some beautiful fall decoration.

Now that you know how to make pom pom garland, you can showcase it anywhere and impress your friends and family. Again, you can make it fit with any season by just changing the colors of the pom poms. Your garland is guaranteed to turn out beautiful, but remember, if all else fails, I'm sure your cat will still enjoy it.
