CD Coffee table

CD Coffee Table

                            

From the moment I saw this coffee table sitting in Treasures from the Heart in Baldwin, WI I knew I had to have it and make it into my very own creation.  It was in pretty good shape when I got it but I knew I could turn it into something great!

Items you will need:

1.            Foam Paint Brushes

2.            Paint and Primer

3.            E6000 Permanent Craft Adhesive

4.            Wood Picture frame (size depends on the measurement of the top)

5.            CDs (we used 8 blank CD’s)

We began by priming the coffee table.  It was laminate wood so we had to make sure we went over it enough to get a good coat. 

We then painted it a teal blue color (you can use whatever color you want, we used teal because it matched the CD's well.  Make sure you go over it a couple of times to get rid of unwanted brush strokes. To make the process go faster we had fans blowing on it.

 

After the paint had dried, we put E3000 Permanent Craft Adhesive around the perimeter of the picture frame. We went around two times, once around the outer edge and once around the inner edge. Then, we put the frame onto the table top. We had made sure beforehand that it would fit perfectly. (We used a dark wooded picture frame because it was a good accent color.  Finally, we put all the CD's were we wanted them and marked them off with a pencil. We then began putting E3000 Permanent Craft Adhesive around the outer and inner edge of the CD (make sure when you go around the inside of the circle that you don’t put the glue on the clear part because then you will see it when you lay them back down.  We let it dry with Fans blowing on it all night.  It sat for about 10 hours and then it was finished!

Washer Jewelry

Everyone has got those old boring metal washers laying around their garage or utility shed, that have point being there. Well not only can they be used as a tool, but also a beautiful piece of jewelry! Very simple to make in fact, and somewhat fun in the process. There are many different ways to use the washer in jewelry making, but this one is by far the easiest, and the only one you could make with household items.

What you'll need:
2 different sized metal washers
Mod Podge, or glue mixed with water
Colored paper
Paint brush
Scissors or Exact-o knife
String

For starters, you will want any kind of colored paper. You can use two different ones, or the same color for both. For mine, I decided to use yellow and pink-colors that go well together.

Lay the washer on top of the paper and trace the outline of the washer and use an Exact-o knife or even a scissors and cut the circle out, then cut the center out.

Take a paintbrush and layer some Mod Podge onto the washer, lay the cut paper on top of that, then layer another set of Mod Podge on top of the paper, and let it dry.

One more time on another washer, but this one should be either smaller or bigger than the one you just made.

Once they are dry, (about one hour) you lay the two together, cut some string and loop it through them tho create your necklace!

Old Bench Makeover

I found this old bench sitting in my basement, looking for a project I thought it would be perfect to recreate into a functional piece of furniture.

What you will need:

-An old wooden bench

-Paint

-Fabric

-A stapler with staples (for stapling in fabric to wood)

-Sand Paper

-Foam (for The Cushion)

-Cardboard

After I found the bench I found some old fabric and foam in my basement.

First, I sanded down the bench entirely, except for the top which will be covered by the cushion.

After it was all sanded I painted, I used a satin spray paint.

Once it was painted and had dried I cut out the cardboard to the size of the bench top, and the foam 2 inches bigger than the bench’s top in every direction.

Then I layed down the fabric with the foam on top of that and on top of that the bench. After I straightened everything I stapled it to the bottom of the bench And cut off the excess fabric.
